2014 Young Advocates Institute

The North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault (NCCASA), a nonprofit organization that serves as the sole statewide expertise working to end sexual violence and human trafficking through education, advocacy and legislation,  the Wendell Scott Foundation, a community based youth serving organization named in honor of Wendell Oliver Scott the first African American race car driver; and the City of Danville Division of Social Services Office of Comprehensive Services are pleased to partner and announce the 2014 Young Advocates Institute. This project houses, trains, and brings together 200 teens, ages 13-17, from across Virginia and North Carolina for a weekend of prevention education, leadership development, and skill building seminars. Hosted at North Carolina A & T University, in Greensboro, NC, on July 18-20, 2014, the Young Advocates Institute strives to give youth leaders the knowledge, confidence, and skill-sets to be leaders in their communities.

The cost to attendees for 2.5 nights of suite-style lodging, meals, snacks, and wellness activities is a commitment fee of $35 per person. This fee is enacted to ensure accurate estimates in planning and for vendors responsible for logistics. Ten (10) scholarships will be offered to youth in need of financial assistance. If your child or group needs financial assistance, please complete the scholarship form enclosed.

Please know that this is a service learning experience and participants must stay for the ENTIRE institute. Attendees will not be allowed to leave.

Because the 2014 Young Advocates Institute will now include participation from Virginia, there will be 125 available slots for youth and adult chaperones from North Carolina.

**Groups of 10 or more must be accompanied by one (1) adult chaperone. The chaperone must agree to stay on the campus of North Carolina A & T University, July 18-20, 2014, and must complete a separate registration packet.**

Registration is now open. The deadline to submit a completed application is June 23, 2014.
